Amy has been instructing since 2008. She is AFAA certified in group fitness as well as certified in Body Step, Body Pump, CXWORX, SH’Bam, RPM, and is an Elite Body Attack Instructor. A former Division I collegiate athlete, Amy discovered group fitness as an outlet for exercise after graduating college. She fell in love with the Les Mills programs and the rest has evolved from there. Recently, she was invited to the prestigious Les Mills Trainer/Presenter Boot Camp for Body Attack. Outside of the gym, Amy is a Registered Dietitian and runs the local WIC program. Amy’s mantra is staying fit for life, and instructing allows her to pass this on to others.

The Group Fitness Department at Staunton Health and Fitness is unique. We offer eight world class Les Mills programs: Body Pump, Body Step, Body Combat, Body Attack, Sh’Bam, RPM, CX Worx, and Body Flow. We also offer Yoga and Silver Sneakers. What sets our facility apart from the others are the Les Mills programs. Les Mills classes offer a great workout set to top 40 music. The pre-choreographed classes provide consistency so that members get a uniform workout from every instructor, making it easier to follow throughout the class. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

A sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises.

The empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts.

A Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength.

The dance craze that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face and take inches off your waist. Laugh, shimmy, and shake in this 45-minute cardio class.

The original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. a 55-minute workout that challenges all your major muscle groups.

The energizing step workout that makes you feel liberated and alive. Using a height-adjustable step and simple movements on, over, and around the step, you get cardio blocks that push fat burning systems into high gear, followed by muscle conditioning tracks that shape and tone your body.

The indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Your inspiring team coach will lead the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials, and interval training.

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities for daily living. Geared for seniors and those with mobility issues.

Revolutionary core training. Based on cutting-edge scientific research, a brand new 30-minute format, and combines the best of personal training with the energy of a group fitness class. Hones in on the torso and sling muscles that connect your upper body to your tummy and butt, while also improving functional strength and assisting in injury protection.

VINYASA YOGA

Vinyasa means a gradual progression or a step-by-step approach that systematically and appropriately takes a student from one point and safely lands them at the next point. It is sometimes described as the “breathing system,” or the union of breath and movement that make up the steps.

The word vinyasa has been popularized and is now used in many yoga classes to describe the connection of one pose to the next, as in the Sun Salutation that you described. It is now a commonly used “shorthand” in many flow classes.
